The stand-out track, and probably their best song ever, is the title track Blackbird, which never fails to send chills down the spine, with a great emotional build and a thrilling dual guitar solo from Tremonti and Kennedy. There is very little that I don't like about this band or album. It's not perfect, it's maybe slightly too long and there's a hint of samey-ness about proceedings but, overall, it's a fine album. This was thanks in no small part to the evolution of Myles Kennedy, not only as one of the 21st century's best rock vocalists but also as a decent rhythm guitarist and, crucially, as a songwriter. Even aside from the story behind the song, its an awesome song with some very on-brand fingerpicking guitar work to start the song, before going to the verse chord progression. Its got a nice, smooth singing lead with a punchy rhythm tone and a very nice fingerstyle tone. It's one of the better examples of a modern day rock album, and tracks like Come To Life, Brand New Start and Rise Today were almost custom built for both rock radio and car stereos. Heres why you can trust us. Their 2010 album AB III didnt shy away from visiting darker lyrical territory, particularly on songs such as Slip to the Void. Along with Watch over you, its played in an open G tuning, giving the bright, positive sound before it kicks and progresses into the full band, similar to a lot of other Alter Bridge songs.
