I recently flew to India and both the 787 and A350 have only 2 toilets in the business class cabin and AF has started blocking off one of them for the crew. BA/IB have terrible departure times out of FCO to connect in MAD/LHR onto AA metal. The pillow was fine but the blanket not nearly as good as the one provided by British Airways, and there was no mattress pad. All depends. Why do airlines (and passengers) insist on closing the shades on these daytime eastbound flights? Nice report Gary. Great report. Unlike KLM, Air France has legit wine and generally higher quality food.
The airlines onboard service is distinctively French, and francophiles may prefer Air France solely for that reason. Anyway, wanted to say thanks for the LArdoise recommendation from whatever post that was all those years ago.
If I can snag Lufthansas F award tix a year out, I would def do that. The wine list (which includes champagne in all classes of service) understandably focuses on French wines, and there will often be a choice between two reds and two whites. Business Class passengers are entitled to check in two bags, free of charge, up to 70 pounds (32 kilos) each.
I appreciate that the footwells in these seats have a good amount of space, so you shouldnt feel too constrained when the seat is reclined.
The cabin is super private, offering just four large seats with more space than the Business Class cabin, significantly upgraded dining and amenities like pajamas and turn down service with hotel-style bedding, separate first class lounges and transfers planeside in luxury cars. We were also offered pre-departure drinks, and we both had champagne. All people living in France are ashamed about that cheese selection in business, same cheese you can buy in any supermarket.
On the return home got to the airport nearly 4 hours prior to departure and nearly missed the flight. They provided great service during the meals, and also passed through the cabin periodically to offer snacks & drinks.
They have not reviewed, approved or endorsed what I have to say. Light snack trays for arrivals outside breakfast hours often do not offer a choice.
Many roped-off seats reserved for their important passengers.
Air Frances Business Class benefits are standardized around SkyTeams SkyPriority concept, with designated priority lines at check-in, security, and boarding. The cheese was fine (maybe my standards were too high after spending time in Paris), but I really enjoyed the selection of treats and sorbets afterward. I too found the seats very comfortable and got in a solid couple hours nap in recline after lunch.
I have noticed that AF award tickets have been excluding lounge access and seat assignments lately. While we enjoyed flying Lufthansa first class via Frankfurt on the outbound, for the return we decided to just book the most direct routing, from Paris to Miami on Air France.
I also like KL, but as you say, their 2-2-2 format and lack of privacy are downsides, but I would consider it over the likes of LH, BA or IB.
On most long-haul flights, a light meal or breakfast is served prior to arrival. Note: boarding in SJO was hectic just one outside staircase in the open air for all the passengers and no priority for Business class! Maybe I was most impressed by the second meal service, not because it was better than the main meal (it wasnt) but because its so much better than I expect for a second meal which is usually quite bad on U.S. airlines. Passengers who choose to upgrade can choose to pay the full amount in either miles or cash, or a combination. We recently flew AF JFK-CDG RT and thought it was great, certainly compared to AA or DL.

I booked (3) seats Paris Houston for 66,500 Air France KLM Flying Blue miles + $383.17 apiece. While the seats were nice iad to cdg, they were abysmal cdg to Bom. if they resumed proper catering they'd be a winner with their new J seats. of course, my bag of food that was well protected in multiple bags was taken by security due to its liquids (mustards). There were no coverage gaps, with the exception of the last 45 minutes before landing.
The pillow and blanket arent cutting edge, but are solid theyre well cushioned without feeling too warm. I tend to think the Flying Blue program is underrated for transatlantic business class redemptions: When we booked, our flight was supposed to be operated by an Airbus A350-900. Stayed at the Hilton Maison Astor, was perfectly fine.
I dont know about any other Star Alliance airline, but this seat doesnt look as good as the A350 Singapore business class, particularly the first rows of each cabin, and I flew that across the pond from IAH to MAN just last week. I was carrying my backpack onboard. May I begin by mentioning how much I hate Charles de Gaulle airport?
Anyways, this OW Fanboy is enjoying the AA nonstop SEA-LHR.
Im curious how the lines compare to LHR, AMS, or FRA. I had the beef for me main and it was quite good. I flew British Airways to Paris in business class with my wife and daughter.
Make DL look like a bargain! Flight attendants were both friendly and efficient throughout, always available, and I was proud of my three year old daughter who ate food, watched shows, played games and never got fussy at all on the journey. I agree with your review.
AF used to have poor Business Class seats with marginal food - now I find AF to have consistent best in class seats with consistently good and sometimes outstanding food - they have multiple types of mustard available as well as hot sauce which I think is great. I also asked for some still water, and was offered a package with cashews and cranberries. Congratulations for people who can afford to travel business.I only afford premium economy which is a little more comfortable than tourist. It seems like they make-up convenient rules in the moment. No place to hang jackets. If anyone is interested in reducing fatigue and jet lag, isn't it better to keep the place as light as possible and to try and avoid sleeping?
After the indifference of business check-in, there was no priority security service offered.
Business Class passengers are entitled to check in two bags, free of charge, up to 70 pounds (32 kilos) each.
Flying business on UA/SQ from AUS-SFO-SIN Next month.
While the presentation left a bit to be desired (between the general plating and the aluminum ramekin), the dish was incredibly flavorful, and tasted excellent.
The Planes are OLDER, TOO and you can see broken panels. Starters can typically include a premium protein such as foie gras, lobster or shrimp, often with a marinated vegetable salad and mixed seasonal salad with olive oil and vinaigrette dressing. After an amazing six nights in Paris, it was time to fly back home.
Its interesting to note that the forward business class cabin was almost completely full (transatlantic flights are starting to fill up! It was fine and nice to have on an 11 hour flight, but something you could definitely give a miss and not regret. Years ago AA would offer to hang my blazer on every flight, even in domestic F. It's been forever since an AA FA has offered to hang my coat for me.
They would make a hot sandwich for you however of meat and cheese.
My recent Paris Houston business class redemption cost 66,500 points though if Id originated elsewhere in Europe it would have been []. The Air France Business lounge in 2E is very old and gets crowded. Years ago AA Oh, and btw, the hangar upon boarding is such a simple yet nice touch!
Its far from the city and even without traffic is a schlepp. I agree.
Window seat 5 A. Yes I think a lot would agree that AF is the best of the lot. On this flight from CDG to SFO, business class on this airline is just not worth the significant extra cost.
There was a bar service setup in the galley and self-service chocolates and chips, neither of which were especially to my taste. The seats were the older 2-2-2 config but worked great for us). They served dinner with a big chunk of butter, and I thought it was cheese, so I at the whole thing in one swallow. How do the seats compare with the A350? I find Air France J indeed is the best way to cross the pond using award miles.
Star Alliance wins for CDG. Most helpful comments ( as chosen by the OMAAT community ).
Skip the lines. I love waking up and discovering we're more than halfway home!
The main dish options almost always include at least a meat dish, a seafood dish, and a vegetarian dish. Two airlines, one company and so many differences. Now I fly oneworld First, and look back on the AF experience with a smile. Also I now think the AF lounges in CDG are better than those at either FRA, MUC or LHR - better food and booze.
I remember that happening even in World Traveller.
I love traveling with my kids.
Foie Gras sales have been banned in California since 2012. Very poor showers with no ventilation that leaves you sweating. Did you get any looks, stares, or sneers bringing a little tyke into the biz cabin? I believe they don't allow you to pay for F lounge access anymore unless you've actually paid for F in the past.
Why dont you need a pen to enter the USA? Food was almost the same menu as you experienced, and I had the same feelings about the lack of snacks.
Flew Swiss Air (Zurich-SFO) recently and had at least 4 lines before getting thru Security/Customs etc.
Taxes and fees totaled $375 per person. Its certainly possible to provide a nice multi-course meal in business class and other airlines should take lessons. Very poor showers with no ventilation that leaves you sweating. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Around the halfway point of the flight I ordered an espresso, which was great. Get the world's best flight deals delivered daily. Kids are people, and they are allowed to make a fuss and be noisy. LX has a great business class too that's probably close to AF in quality.
Im no longer young, so that probs wont happen again. document.getElementById( "ak_js" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() ); Hallo.. wir sind jetzt das 2te mal AF buisiness class geflogen und es war gigantisch.. ein super Preis Leistungsverhltnis.. wir hatten ein sehr sicheres Gefhl vom einchecken bis zum Ziel.. klasse Leistung..sehr nettes Personal was auch Mut viel Geduld behilflich war.
